A Fond Farewell To Our Dear Friend Maureen
A “fond farewell” may sound a bit like a cliche to you. Basically, it means that although you may not see the person for a very long time, you are wishing them well and blessing their future with fortune because of the fondness or love that you have shared with them in the past. I don’t know about you, but we cannot think of a better way to say goodbye to a dear friend and member of the Habitat family, Maureen Champagne.
For those of you who may be long-time volunteers or ReStore patrons, you know just how much Maureen has done for the ReStore and for Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga in her time with us. As Habitat HM’s longest serving employee, Maureen has been with us since the beginning. Over the past 14 years she has been a real matriarch of our organization, leading our flagship ReStore in Burlington through 3 renovations (from 3,000 square feet to over 20,000 square feet) and guiding it to become the top ReStore in Ontario and the second highest-earning ReStore in Canada. She also established our second ReStore in Milton and completely revitalized and organized the Family Services department since taking over as Director in early 2015, just to name a few. Trust us when we say these accomplishments are a true testament to Maureen’s gifts of mentorship, drive, determination, vision and her keen eye for detail.
Recently, Maureen announced that she has decided it’s time to move on to the next chapter in her life, and we could not be happier for her despite how much we will all miss her.
From all of us here at Habitat, including the many families and volunteers who’s lives you helped to change forever, thank you Maureen for everything you’ve done for us and our organization. You are leaving behind an incredible legacy for those that will follow in your footsteps and those who will walk beside them towards a world where everyone has a safe, decent and affordable place to call home. We sincerely hope that you enjoy this next adventure in your life and that you will look back in fondness at your time here and the lasting friendships that you’ve made along the way.
